A Real Life Eye Opener By: Trudy Kolar I just read a chilling article about our current gas prices. These facts are sited from a website called tampa.cbslocal.com. It states that parts of Florida are paying almost $6.oo per gallon of gasoline (as of February 22, 2012). Folks in Alaska are paying $6.34 per gallon. At this price who can afford to leave their home to go to work? In addition to the cost of getting to work, whose watching the kids and how much is that costing? The average cost of child care in the United States is between $610 and $900 per month. These facts are sited from www.buzzle.com. That is an average of $215 per week spent on child care for 1 child. Most families have monthly living expenses, miscellaneous expenses. Let's not forget all of us have to eat. I would like to outline the income and expenses that a modest family of two (mother and child that lives in Florida) would incur. 2012 statistics include that 79% of custodial single mothers are gainfully employed. 50% work full time, year round. These statistic are sited from www.singleparentingmagazine.net. Let's say it's 20 miles for mom to drive one way to work. Her vehicle gets 20 miles per gallon. 20mi. x 2= 40+$6.00x2=$12.00 per day. She works 5 days a week. 12x5=$60 per week for gas. Mom works 40 hours per week which requires full time child care of $215 per week. Mom and child rent their dwelling. Rent is $500 per month or $250 per week (based on a 30 day month). Food and groceries run the family $50 per week. The point I'm trying to make is that mom would have to have a full time job (40 hours per week) that paid her at least $10.25 per hour. This figure does not include utilities, car payment, insurance, credit card payments, or going to the movies. This is bare bones "life." Coming from a person who has been in the workforce for 20 years. It's tough to find a job that pays this much from the start. Work from home positions do exist. You just have to do some research, and be careful of scams. Using the figures above. If you worked from home, you could eliminate $57 per day in expenses. That's a $285 savings per week. There are companies out there who are willing to hire entry level positions. G5LIVE hired me, and to be honest, I've never been happier working for someone. They offered me the opportunity to be able to work from home. With hours that coincided with my schedule. They gave me opportunity to be with my kids, and the freedom to live my life. Although, this is supplemental income and should not be replaced by regular full time (40 hours per week) employment. Thank you G5LIVE for giving me the chance to fulfill both of my dreams. To help people, and be the best wife and mother I can be. G5LIVE, work at home
